Backwoods Nails Purple Fire Swatch and Review

Hey everybody!  Aren't you glad it's finally the weekend?  I sure am.  I've got a great polish to share with you today,  from a new indie brand called Backwoods Nails.  I was sent Purple Fire to swatch and I love it.

Purple fire is a mix of holographic purple bar glitters, silver holographic hexes, silver holographic micro glitters and randomly cut black glitters in a clear base.  Shown in the pictures is one coat over Color Club Electronica.

I think that this is a super gorgeous, different and unique polish; I've never seen anything remotely like it.  And that's saying something, because I've seen A LOT of nail polish.  Like most glitter polishes, you need to dab the polish on to make sure the glittery goodness is spread evenly across the nail.  However, that's a small price to pay for the end result.  It's like a little party on your nails :)
The best thing about this polish is that it self-levels like a charm.   After a about a minute the base is completely flat.  Not to mention dry.  Of course, the glitter is still a little bumpy, but add a layer or two of topcoat and your good to go.

This polish is really special.  Really, the glitters are the definition of holographic.  I wish that it could be captured on camera, these pictures really don't do Purple Fire justice.  If you love this as much as I do, you can buy a bottle on Tiffany and Alauna's shop, Backwoods Nails. Each bottle of polish is $8.  Be sure to check it out!
Happy Saturday!

Water Marbles and Polka Dots

Well, the title pretty much says it all.  To create this design, I started by painting my nails with Wet n Wild Tickled Pink.  Once that was dry, I taped off my fingers and marbled with Tickled Pink and Revlon ColorStay Rich Raspberry.   For the accent nails I used a dotting tool and Sinful Colors Snow Me White to easily make the polka dots.
Hope you liked this design!
Happy Friday!  Let the weekend begin!

Honey Bunny Lacquer Bridges Burning Swatch Review

Hey everyone!  Today's swatch is from a new-to-me indie brand called Honey Bunny Lacquer(I love the name).  I think that a lot of indie brands are better than larger, more popular brands because extra thought and effort goes into each bottle.  Honey Bunny Lacquer is no exception.  I was sent the color Bridges Burning from the Wasting Light Collection- inspired by the album of the same name by the Foo Fighters.  The Foo Fighters are great, so that's cool.

Bridges Burning is a fabulous copper color.  I was expecting it to be kind of like Harvest Moon by China Glaze but it's COMPLETELY different.   There's a subtle golden/copper shimmer that makes it really glow-y and unique.

The most amazing thing about this polish is that it's a one coater!  Yes folks, what you're seeing is true:  the magnificent coverage you see in the pictures above and below is indeed one coat.  And it wasn't even a thick coat!  I am sooo impressed.

The dry time was also impressing, I didn't have to wait for long before my nails were shiny and rock hard.
 This bottle is so cute.

Overall, I really like this indie brand, and I adore the color.  You should definitely check it out.  You can buy a bottle on Deb's Etsy shop, Honey Bunny Lacquer.  A full size bottle is $9 while a mini is $4.  You can also find her on instagram: dmob74, and Twitter: Beautyninja4.
Happy Thursday!

Revlon Midnight Affair Swatch and Review

Hi!  This swatch is of Revlon Midnight Affair.  This polish was actually gifted to me.  I don't think that I myself would have bought it; not because I don't like the color, but because I like it too much.  I now have like six polishes in this shade haha.   I'm such a sucker for anything dark navy blue.  Actually, I'm really glad that I received this, it's a lot different than my other five.

Formula and Application:  The formula is great, there is a little bit of streaking on the first coat, but it's nothing that a second coat can't handle.  It dried super fast, which is great, there's nothing I hate more than waiting over five minutes for my polish to dry.

Color and Finish:  Midnight Affair is a deep, dark blue.  What makes it different than my other blues is that it doesn't have a lot of shimmer.  There is actually almost no shimmer, which is strange because in the bottle it looks super shimmery.  It dries to a satin finish, another thing that makes it different.  Even with topcoat, it doesn't have a lot of shine, which I sort of like.

Overall, this is a great bottle of polish.  I tried to write a little more than I have in my previous posts, so I hope you liked it!

Chain Stamping Nail Art

After I finished swatching Harvest Moon, I decided to add a little excitement to my mani by stamping on a design.
I don't really know what to call this design, so I'm going to stick with 'chain art.'  My chain art was created with Mash plate 14.
Hope you liked this short and sweet post!

China Glaze Harvest Moon Swatch and Review

Today's swatch is of China Glaze Harvest Moon, from the Hunger Games collection.  This is one of my favorite colors ever.  It's just such an absolutely gorgeous color, and it's the perfect shade for fall, which officially starts tomorrow.

Harvest Moon is a super shiny metallic copper color.  The coverage is great and it could easily be a one-coater.  I used two coats and topcoat in the picture above.
I purchased this for $5.00 on amazon, and it's totally worth every penny.   I hope you liked it!

Nabi Hot Flower Swatch and Review

This is a swatch of the base color I used in my last post.  I really like this color, and I already had it on, so I thought, "Why not swatch it?"

Like I just mentioned, I am a big fan of the color.  It's a steely blue that reminds me of rain.  The dry time is great too.  Actually, everything about it is great; except for one thing.  Every single brush stroke and/or flaw in the paint job is made blindingly obvious.  Topcoat helps a little, but not a lot.  If it wasn't for that little problem, Hot Flower would definitely be a contender to be one of my top ten polishes.
Don't get me wrong, I still love this polish.  It's just in my top twenty instead of my top ten.
I hope you enjoyed this swatch!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue It

Glitter Stripes Nail Art

Hi Everyone!  So I was lazy today and decided to do something super simple.  This design is so easy to do.  All you need is striping tape.  However, if you want to see the tutorial, you can view it here.
Products I Used:

Wet n Wild Tickled Pink

Wet n Wild Sparkled:  A glitter polish stuffed to the brim with pink and silver glitter.  It's such a gorgeous color.  The dry time is average.

Revlon ColorStay Topcoat

Sorry about the short post!

Happy Wednesday!

China Glaze Concrete Catwalk and Out The Door Northern Lights Swatch And Review

So, because my last review was kind of negative and mean, this one is going to be positive and happy.  Yay!  Three cheers for good reviews!  Today I'm doing a double swatch of China Glaze Concrete Catwalk and the Out The Door Northern Lights holographic topcoat.
I absolutely love Concrete Catwalk.  It's just such a rich, creamy grey color.
Formula: It applies perfectly smooth and could easily be a one coater.  I used two coats in the pictures above, because I had scratched and chipped my first coat.
Dry Time: The dry time is fantastic, it's so easy to apply a quick coat when you're in a hurry.

I just recently purchased the Northern Lights topcoat by Out The Door, and I already love it.  I had been eyeing it for a while, because I desperately wanted a replacement for Fairy Dust by China Glaze.  They are basically the same, except one takes three hours to dry, and the other takes 45 seconds.
Formula: It's super thin, and really easy to apply.  There's not as much glitter as in Fairy Dust, so it takes two coats, but that's completely fine with me.
Dry Time: The bottle advertises 45 seconds, and it does not lie. You get a rock hard finish in 45 seconds flat.

These polishes are great, especially Northern Lights.  If you're debating on buying it like I was, stop thinking; just buy it already.

Orly Robo Romance Swatch and Review

Hi Everyone!  Today's swatch is of Orly's Robo Romance.  I bought this color because I really wanted a soft, baby pink color.  And let's just say, I was sOrly disappointed(see what I did there? With the the sorely Orly thing?).  Really though, bad puns aside, this polish really was a big bummer.

First of all, on Orly's website says that this is a holographic polish.  This is in no way holographic.  AT ALL.   It is a pale pink polish with a bit of square glitter.  Emphasis on a bit.

Speaking of glitter, the one thing I did like about this polish was that the few pieces of glitter were square, which I thought was a really cool effect.

Now to the real reason I dislike this polish:   It has no color whatsoever.  When you put on the first coat, it looks like base coat.  Nothing.  Second coat, barely anything.  What you see in the pictures is six coats over white.  And that, to me, is absolutely ridiculous.  If Orly could come up with a more pigmented version of this, I would love it.   But I don't think you'll catch me wearing this anytime soon.

Gradient Dot Nail Design

This design is a combination of two of my favorite things on my nails: Dots and blue polish.   I also love gradients, so while trying to think of a new combination of colors I thought, "Hey!  Why not do a blue dotted gradient?"  So this is the result, and I really like it.   I was  afraid that the dots would smudge once I put on topcoat, but it turned out fine, so that's great.  I hope you like the design!  The video is on YouTube, you can view it here.

Products I Used:

Sinful Colors Snow Me White-  I love this polish because it's a one-coater and it dries amazingly fast.  However, even if I don't shake the bottle, it bubbles terribly on my nails.  It's perfect for designs though.

Love and Beauty Light Blue-  It's such a pretty  color, but it takes forever to dry!   I'm talking almost two hours.  Totally not cool.  So it's good to use it on tiny designs that use barely any polish.

Nabi Hot Flower-  I really like the color of this polish, but it's one of those metallic colors that show every brush stroke.   It all depends on if you know how to work with it.  I just use the old one stroke on either side then one stroke down the middle method.

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue It- A pretty good dark blue, I've talked about it before.

Revlon ColorStay Topcoat-  Nothing's changed with this one.  It still cracks my polish.

Reading over this, it seems like all of the polishes I used had something wrong with them.  Sorry if it seems too negative!  I hope you enjoyed!

NYX Enchanting Ocean Swatch and Review

NYX Enchanting Ocean!
A little while ago at the checkout desk of some random store in the mall, this little baby caught my eye.  I completely fell in love with the color, but I was reluctant to buy it because I wasn't too sure of the quality.  Of course, my love for this amazing shade won over and soon I was at home swatching it.  Let me just say, I am SO SO SO glad I decided to buy Enchanting Ocean.
For starters, the formula is AMAZING!  It's super easy to apply and it needs only two to three layers, depending on how thick you make them.  I was just so stunned at the amazing quality, which surpassed many of my much more expensive polishes.
Now for the color.  It's a killer, and the pictures do it no, and I mean no, justice.  In reality, it's a gorgeous blue/green jelly, much deeper than the first two photos; the third one comes a little closer to the actual color.  It is a glass fleck polish, and some of the glass reflects blue and purple, which just adds to the already immense awe factor.
I can't get enough of this fantastic polish, and I hope you love it as much as I do.   Thanks!

SUPER Easy Striped Nails

As simple as my last design was, this one is even simpler.  You can do it with any color, and it still looks stunning! You can view the video tutorial here.
Products I Used:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Ivy League- A really pretty green shimmer color.  I bought it a looong time ago and forgot all about it until just recently(two days ago).  I'm really glad I found this, I really like it.  It's a bit thin, but it dries pretty quickly.

Revlon Matte Suede Emerald City- A deep green matte color.  I used topcoat in my design, so it's not matte, but it is really pretty when it is. There are little tiny flecks of glitter and shimmer that make it super pretty to look at.   It used to be one of my favorites until it got almost too thick for me to work with.  I just ordered some thinner, so hopefully that will help Emerald City get back into top notch condition.

Glitter Polish By Love And Beauty- It doesn't have a name, I got for super cheap at Forever 21 not too long ago, so I'm quite sad that it is already thick.  Again, SO glad my thinner is coming!

Revlon ColorStay Topcoat-  Same as in the puzzle piece design.  Like I said in my previous post, I'm only using it until my Out The Door is thinned out(jeez a lot of my polishes are thick).

Hope you enjoyed!

Puzzle Piece Nail Art!!! Yayyy!
This is one of the first designs I created for the blog, and I love it!  It is super fun and easy to do.  I did make a tutorial, and it is on YouTube: http://youtu.be/tfn8-qNpOBg
The products I used were:
Zoya Syrena- One of the top five colors in my collection.  It's a super gorgeous pink with a bit  of shimmer and a very quick drying time.  Best of all, it only needs two coats for full opacity and glides on like a dream!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue it- A dark shimmery blue. I really like this color, because I'm a big fan of blue in general.  It does take a bit of time to dry, but overall it's worth the wait.

Wet n' Wild Tickled Pink- Ugh, when I use this as a base color, I absolutely hate it.  The application is okay, but it chips literally less then an hour later.  However, it is good for designs and water marbling.

Revlon ColorStay Top Coat- Pretty good but not my favorite.  It goes on easily but tends to crack my polish after it dries.  I'm only using it because my Out The Door got a little goopey.

I hope you enjoyed the design!
